The bedroom idea

Bedroom
So far we thought the bedroom is the only room that wasting space the most. Some people love to have a huge bedroom but we obviously are not one of those people. We would rather the extra square foot from the bedroom goes to the common area like living room. A bedroom that's big enough for a queen size bed and clothes closet is enough for us. Unfortunately, we can't have anything we want, right? There is always something to compensate. That goes the same when we bought our own home someday in the future. The biggest difference will be we can renovate our house to make it into our style and preference. But that's future story. For now we need to make good use of every square foot of the place we rent.

The clothes closet door

There is nothing specific we want to put inside our bedroom outside of a queen size bed and our clothes. We decided not to buy a bed frame. Our main consideration not buying one is not the cost but the trouble it bring when we are moving out. Obviously, I am not the greatest helper when it comes to moving big furniture. We can live without the bed frame.

DreamFoam Bedding 12-in-1 Customizable Mattress

I have slept in different kind of mattress. From thin foam and bamboo used in Taiwan dorm, my Grandma's hard cotton mattress in Indonesia, a nice spring mattress, a nice 2 inches foam mattress even a floor. So far I have no preference on my mattress. I sleep just fine in any kind of bed. My husband, however, is more picky about the mattress. He grows up with a layer of foam on top of the spring mattress. He had similar set up back to his apartment in Salt Lake City. For our new apartment, he wanted to try 12 inches foam mattress. I left the decision of the bed to him. The one he chose was DreamFoam Bedding 12-in-1 Customizable Mattress from Amazon. This mattress has 3 different hardness foam: hard, medium, and soft. We used the soft as the top layer, then the hard and the medium. The first night we slept on it, the foam was too hot. My husband said he woke up several times in the night because of the heat it accumulated. The next day, I opened the window in the bedroom. It cooled down the temperature of the bedroom and the foam. We had a nice cool foam that night and the next morning he told me that he had a good sleep. He didn't wake up at all until it was morning. Since that day, I opened the window in our bedroom after he went to work.

Sterilite 5 Drawer Tower
The clothes closet in our bedroom was perfect for me. I never like folding my clothes. It always leaves a crease after folded for a wshile. So, I didn't care for it not having a drawer. My husband, in the other side, prefer to see all of his clothes at one glace. He had his clothes laid down on his bedroom floor in Salt Lake City before I moved in. After I moved in, I rearrange his clothes drawer and folded his clothes nicely so he can see all of them without moving the stack. So, for this apartment, I also want to do the same. I bought cheap plastic drawer from Walmart. I chose this one because of the 2 small drawers on the top. I can put his underwear and socks on the two top drawers then his T-shirts, trousers and winter clothing on the bottom drawer. It's perfect for him. This drawer came in a pack of two so I use the first tower for his work clothing and the second tower for casual clothing. So far, I haven't heard any complain from him.

Well, that's all of the stuff we bought for the bedroom. The bedroom, now, is in a complete mess. We used it as temporary storage for our boxes - mostly the books, decoration and craft boxes. I unpacked the decoration boxes yesterday and some of the books. I still have all of my craft boxes in the corner of the bedroom. It will go into the craft table once it's here. Right now we also have the printer in the bedroom. Yeah, it's strange to have a printer in the bedroom and the computer in the living room. But we don't really have space for the big printer in the living room. I wanted to put it in the big computer desk but it looks ugly. Maybe after I set up my craft table, I will try to find a place for it near it. For now it finds its home in our bedroom :)
You can see the plastic drawer from inside the closet

It was a messy bedroom. It's still now but better :)
Cheers,
Sherls
